Junior Project Manager
About the Role
This position is part of the Hanley Energy US Eastern Region (IAD) Projects Team and reports directly to the Program Manager for the region.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of projects by serving as the technical liaison between clients, third-party vendors, subcontractors, and Hanley Energy's internal engineering teams. Previous experience working in a project-driven environment is essential.
This position requires excellent organizational, communication, and technical skills to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project & Controls Team on assigned projects, primarily within the US Eastern Region.
- Attend client commissioning, coordination, and project meetings at various customer locations.
- Review client specifications, electrical drawings, control schematics, and single-line diagrams to define and validate project scope.
- Review third-party electrical and control drawings and prepare accurate I/O lists.
- Manage and respond to technical queries through the Request for Information (RFI) process.
- Implement project quality control procedures and maintain accurate project documentation and databases.
- Prepare technical submittals, reports, and supporting documentation for client review and approval.
- Develop method statements and risk assessments for upcoming project activities.
- Conduct site visits to monitor project progress, identify issues, and provide regular status updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Track project variations and maintain an accurate change order log.
- Compile Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals and complete project handover documentation.
- Support project closeout activities to ensure all contractual deliverables are completed.
Technical Qualifications
The successful candidate should possess the following technical qualifications:
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory, control systems, and industrial automation.
- Basic knowledge of electrical safety practices and hazards associated with electrical energy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Experience using Bluebeam Revu is highly desirable. Adobe Acrobat experience will also be considered.
- Working knowledge of Smartsheet is highly desirable.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, or a related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Previous experience working within industrial facilities, mission-critical environments, or data centers is highly desirable.
- Comfortable utilizing multiple communication platforms, including email, Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet, and mobile communication tools.
Preferred Experience & Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 1–3 years of experience in project engineering, project coordination, or a related technical role, or equivalent technical training.
- A strong understanding of project scheduling, including critical path methodology, predecessor and successor relationships, and resource planning.
- Experience with project quotations, purchase orders, project tracking, progress reporting, and project closeout documentation.
- Strong project engineering knowledge with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to collaborate within a dynamic matrix organization involving multiple internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
- Sound decision-making skills and the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive approach with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
