Junior Patent Agent - Chemistry

About the Role

We are seeking a technology advisor or patent agent for our life sciences patent practice in our Silicon Valley, Boston, or New York offices. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. (or M.D. with research experience) in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field to join our busy life sciences patent prosecution and counseling practice as a technology advisor or patent agent.

Responsibilities

• Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses
• Analyze patents and scientific papers to assist patent attorneys on patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation
• Draft patent applications and responses to office actions
• Participate in post-grant procedures at the USPTO

Requirements

• Ph.D. (or M.D. with research experience) in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field
• Broad scientific knowledge in biotechnology
• Superb technical, written and verbal communication skills
• Must possess initiative, be a fast learner, and work well with others
• Must be a registered USPTO patent agent or eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam and otherwise meet the requirements for registration as a patent agent
• Full-time position with in-office requirements of at least three days a week

Pay

Anticipated range: $90,000 - $155,000. Actual base salary offered may depend upon qualifications, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance.
