Junior Party Chief - Surveying
About the role
This is a full-time position performing survey field work in a supporting role under the guidance of a party chief. The position may also involve performing survey field work in a leading role when needed, either working independently or with an instrument operator.
Responsibilities
- Perform survey field work in a supporting role under the guidance of a party chief.
- May also perform survey field work in a leading role when needed, either working independently or with an instrument operator.
- Work on a wide variety of survey projects in different sectors such as commercial, transportation, environmental, industrial, institutional, and energy projects.
- Work on project sites within the greater Boston Area, and the entire state of Massachusetts, but there may be occasions where project sites are located outside of this area and travel may be a possibility.
- Utilize a variety of survey instruments and other equipment to obtain measurements and perform field surveys.
- Prepare notes and sketches in a clear and legible manner.
- Interact with clients and the public while in the field and represent WSP in a positive and professional manner.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required but ideal candidates will have obtained higher education in the field of land surveying or an associated field.
- 2+ years of experience in the field of land surveying and geospatial services or an associated field.
- Possess basic knowledge of common survey equipment, practices, and procedures.
- Possess a willingness to learn.
- Successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle and Background screening.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills and should be detail oriented and organized.
- Able to work independently with supervision or as part of a team to complete field tasks related to land surveying.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of this position which may include walking long distances and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and be willing to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Able to work flexible schedules conducive to project-specific needs that may extend beyond the typical work hours or work weeks. May include night work and/or out of town work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
- Possess OSHA 10, or other types of safety training certifications.
- Possess or progressing towards LSIT or CST certifications.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and Lecia Infinity or other drafting / data processing programs a plus.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $45,000 - $60,000 annually.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
