About the role

The ROC Junior Operator is an entry-level critical role on the Renewables Operation Center (ROC) team, based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The team remotely monitors and operates Solar PV power generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across North America, assisting in field operations and maintenance of over 1,200 generation facilities under contract. Assets range from commercial rooftop or industrial plant installations to utility-scale systems connected directly to distribution or transmission systems. A criminal background check is required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • 24/7 monitoring of electrical energy production or storage assets
  • Respond to requests from BES balancing authorities or grid owner/operators
  • Minimize generation equipment downtime, identify and triage plant under-performance, and troubleshoot telemetry/SCADA interruptions
  • Coordinate with field technical staff to remotely monitor, troubleshoot, and control equipment during corrective or planned maintenance
  • Respond to grid owner/operator or balancing authority requests or emergencies within mandated response timelines
  • Monitor and rapidly respond to issues affecting power production of assigned assets
  • Triage and/or escalate production issues and initiate dispatch tickets in coordination with field teams and stakeholders
  • Coordinate planned maintenance outages with grid owner/operator, asset managers, field teams, and asset owners
  • Support technical field staff during asset maintenance or inspections, including equipment status checks and remote troubleshooting

Requirements

  • 2 or more years’ experience as an Operator or in a similar position is preferred
  • Solar energy experience is preferred
  • College or University education in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or similar is an asset
  • Proficient computer skills with ability to learn MS Office suite, unique plant SCADA systems, and network/communication systems
  • Passion for renewable energy with high attention to detail
  • Awareness of cyber and physical security responsibilities in critical infrastructure environments
  • Clear communication in English (written and spoken)
  • Ability to read and understand electrical connection diagrams in substations and solar/battery energy systems
  • Strong focus on safety and alignment with field team safety protocols
  • High level of curiosity and technical aptitude
  • Adaptability to change and technological evolution
  • Team-oriented, outgoing, and confident to contribute ideas and learn

Pay

Compensation aligned with experience and performance, including a 10% night shift differential for overnight coverage and built-in overtime (e.g., 8 hours every other week).

Schedule

Rotating 12-hour shift schedule designed for 24/7 operations:

  • 2 days on, 2 days off, 5 days on, 5 days off or 2 days off, 2 days on, 5 days off, 5 days on
  • Day Shift: 06:00 – 18:00
  • Night Shift: 18:00 – 06:00 (10% differential applied)
  • Built-in extended 5-day breaks for work/life balance
  • Predictable, consistent rotation for easier planning
