About the role

This contractor resource will assist with the development and implementation of NC FAST as a Junior Java Developer within the NC Department of Health and Human Services. The position contributes to the full lifecycle of Java-based applications in a collaborative environment, focusing on growth and quality software delivery in the Curam Application.

Responsibilities

  • Write test scripts and perform manual testing.
  • Create and execute TOSCA automated test scripts.
  • Write JUnit and JMockit test scripts to support automated developer testing.
  • Assist senior developers in building, testing, and debugging Java applications.
  • Write clean, efficient, testable, and well-documented code following industry standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing and receiving feedback to improve code quality.
  • Work with databases and integrate database changes into applications (e.g., SQL).
  • Contribute to system documentation and continuous improvement of development processes.
  • Stay current with new testing and Java technologies, trends, and best practices.
  • Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining new Java applications and features.
  • Collaborate with senior developers and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and implement solutions.
  • Debug and resolve software defects to ensure application stability.

Requirements

  • 3 years’ experience developing and executing automated test scripts in TOSCA.
  • 3 years’ experience using HP test tools including Test Director/Quality Center 9.0 or higher and Quick Test Professional (QTP) 9.5 or higher.
  • 3 years’ experience testing web, GUI, client/server, and database applications.
  • 3 years’ experience with requirements analysis and automated test cases/script development.
  • 3 years’ experience with automated testing, testing tools, writing test plans, and reviewing test cases.
  • 2 years’ experience coding using Java/J2EE.
  • 2 years’ experience developing and testing using JUnits and JMockit.
  • 2 years’ experience executing SQL to validate or test.
  • 2 years’ experience using NeoLoad and qTest.
  • 2 years’ experience with Agile (Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe) development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks within the project and work with minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to interact daily with system developers, business analysts, and others.
  • Experience navigating on a UNIX platform.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of FNS/SNAP Program Policy guidelines.

Skills

  • Proficiency in writing test scripts.
  • TOSCA script development and execution.
  • JUnit and JMockit script development.
  • Solid understanding of Java fundamentals, object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience with development tools (IDEs like Eclipse, Git, RSA).
  • Knowledge of Q-Test and NeoLoad.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies.
  • Basic knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Exposure to Spring Framework, Hibernate, or related technologies.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with testing Curam products.
  • Experience testing for a health and human services project.
