Turn your love of skating into a rewarding first job! Join Boise Parks and Recreation as a Junior Ice Skating Instructor and help youth and adults build confidence and skills on the ice. You'll assist with fun, engaging lessons while helping create a safe, positive learning environment for skaters of all ages. If you're passionate about skating, enjoy working with people, and want to gain valuable leadership experience, this is a great opportunity to get started. This position is open to applicants 15 years of age and older.

About the role

This position is open to applicants 15 years of age and older. Must Be Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training a member of U.S Figure Skating through a recognized figure skating club or as an individual. Complete Learn to Skate USA Instructor Certification within one month of date of hire. Must attend Junior Instructor orientation.

  • Special Requirements: Applicants Must Be Able To Pass City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Ice skating techniques.
  • Ability to: Maintain good relations with parents and skaters.
  • General customer service standards.
  • Interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations.
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
  • Complete assignments in a timely fashion.
  • Understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations.
  • Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions

  • Physical Efforts: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds.
  • Sensory Abilities: The noise level is occasionally moderate and rarely loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk and run.
  • Additional Physical Efforts: Incumbent will be frequently skating on ice.

Working Environment

  • Inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures and in wet and humid conditions.
  • Protected exposure to bodily fluids.
  • This position works: evenings and weekends.
