About the role

The College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan invite applications for full-time tenure-track or tenured positions in quantum science and technology to begin August 28, 2023. As part of an initiative in quantum science and technology at the University, 8 new faculty will be hired. These faculty can be rostered in the following departments (jointly if appropriate): LSA/Physics, COE/Electrical and Computer Engineering, LSA/Math, COE/Computer Science and Engineering, LSA/Chemistry, COE/Materials Science and Engineering, depending on the best fit for the applicant.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-impact research in quantum science and technology
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in quantum science and technology
  • Develop and maintain a strong external research network
  • Engage in service activities within the university and community

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field (quantum physics, electrical engineering, computer science, chemistry, materials science)
  • Strong record of research accomplishments
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Qualifications

  • Research focus on quantum science and technology
  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Ability to mentor students and junior faculty

Skills

  • Expertise in quantum computing, quantum information theory, quantum optics, or related fields
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Pay

  • Salary range: $100,000 - $150,000 per year

Schedule

  • Appointment is based on a 9 month academic year
