Job Summary
The Junior Buyer is responsible for procurement and distribution of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies. This includes tasks such as sourcing, purchasing, and negotiating with suppliers to obtain the best quality products at competitive prices.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Coincides all activities related to procurement of a commodity from the intent to purchase through delivery.
- Analyzes the requirements of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date commodity is needed.
- Investigates and interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements.
- Solicits and evaluates proposals for the requested commodity from suppliers.
- Advises team members or management on the appropriate supplier to be used.
- Negotiates pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to ensure favorable agreements.
- Negotiates the lowest possible cost for the material, parts or equipment needed balanced against the optimum quality and production schedule needs.
- Implements purchase contracts that comply with company and government regulations.
- Affirms that items ordered are delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meet the quality standards of the company.
- Addresses supplier performance issues and negotiates acceptable solutions.
- Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to ensure accurate retention of records.
- Collaborates with Manufacturing, Quality, and Accounting departments to ensure materials and supplies are ordered and delivered on time with sufficient quality to be released to production.
- Coordinates with accounting to ensure vendor invoices are paid and resolves any discrepancies as needed.
- Generates customer invoices and makes sure payments are received.
- Assists with shipping paperwork for customer orders.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and purchasing software.
- An analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Education/Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- A college degree in business, supply chain management, accounting, or related field preferred.
- Prior procurement experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience working with an ERP software program.
