About the Opportunity:The JUNIOR BACKEND ENGINEER (Europe) will contribute to developing backend services, data, and machine learning pipelines that support products used by commercial insurance underwriters. This role involves building and improving systems that process large volumes of structured and unstructured data, including documents and third-party sources. The position holds end-to-end ownership of features and requires collaboration with full-stack, backend, ML, and platform engineers to design, build, test, and operate production systems at scale. This role significantly impacts both the organization's technology and business. Responsibilities:Develop and maintain backend services and data/ML pipelines.Process and reason over large volumes of structured and unstructured data.Build features with end-to-end ownership.Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on system design and operation.Contribute to production system testing and scaling. Requirements:Approximately 1 year of professional software engineering experience with production systems.Strong fundamentals in at least one programming language; proficiency in Python.Degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.Interest in AI, data, and practical applications of machine learning.Ability to take ownership and work within ambiguous environments.Fast learner who values high standards and direct feedback. Pay Range and Compensation Package:Salary range: $60,000 to $70,000 USD.
