About the role
The Nieves Law Firm, APC, seeks a full-time Associate Attorney with experience in a private criminal defense setting or a Public Defender's office. Candidates with jury trial, preliminary hearing, and misdemeanor experience are preferred, but we are willing to coach hardworking and committed team members who have at least 1 year of demonstrable experience with criminal law, post-conviction, and restraining order concepts.
Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality and objectivity
- Prepare for hearings in advance, research potential issues, guide the clients clearly, and provide strategic advice
- Advocate for and secure the best possible outcome for clients
- Be familiar with and apply post-conviction remedies
- Stay up to date on changes in the law
- Properly advise clients on the direct and collateral consequences of their case
- Draft and submit motions and other filings on time - meeting internal and external deadlines
- Arrive at work and court on time in professional and appropriate attire
- Maintain a good rapport with clients and treat them with respect
- Participate in ongoing training as required by the Firm
- Participate in networking and community events as required by the Firm
- Accurately and concurrently bill time
Qualifications
- 1-5 years of Criminal Defense experience
- High energy and eagerness to learn
- Strong research and writing skills
- Must be prepared and punctual
- Excellent time management skills
- Committed to providing high-quality client service
- Possess a J.D. and be in good standing with the State Bar of CA
- Willingness to travel throughout Alameda County and the surrounding Bay Area

- Admission to the California Bar and the capacity to attend court in the Bay Area are a MUST for this position
Pay
$100,000 - $135,000 yearly, depending on years of experience and criminal defense experience.

Fast-paced position, but ideal for someone committed to providing quality service to every client in the firm at all times.
