About the role
The Jr. Application Engineer supports the stability, usability, and effectiveness of third-party applications used across Roadrunner, ensuring they remain secure, accessible, and optimized for business needs. This role involves resolving issues, monitoring performance, and improving documentation and user adoption.
Responsibilities
- Support the daily administration and maintenance of third-party applications used across the organization.
- Troubleshoot application issues and coordinate resolutions with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Respond to user requests, incidents, and service inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain user accounts, permissions, and access controls across supported platforms.
- Implement and enforce application security policies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing efforts to improve application security, governance, and operational controls.
- Ensure data integrity and confidentiality within supported environments.
- Develop and maintain application documentation.
- Contribute to training materials that help internal and external users maximize application effectiveness.
- Capture lessons learned, system changes, and process updates to support organizational knowledge retention.
- Promote self-service resources that improve user adoption and reduce recurring support requests.
- Assist with application configurations, updates, testing, and implementation activities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate across Technology and business teams to ensure solutions align with organizational objectives.
- Develop a strong understanding of the organization's application ecosystem and technology standards.
- Learn from experienced engineers and technology leaders through mentorship and hands-on experience.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, platform capabilities, and industry best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent IT work experience may be considered.
- 0–2 years of experience supporting software applications, systems administration, technical support, or related technology functions.
- Strong interest in enterprise software applications, system administration, and technology operations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality work.
- Understanding of software applications, user administration, and access management concepts.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting application and system-related issues.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and business productivity tools.
- Ability to learn new platforms and technologies quickly.
- Experience documenting processes, procedures, or technical information is a plus.
Qualifications
- Internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience supporting business applications.
- Exposure to enterprise software platforms, cloud applications, or IT service management processes.
- Familiarity with knowledge management, technical documentation, or user training development.
- Understanding of information security principles and access control practices.
- Experience working in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or other operationally complex industries is preferred but not required.
