About the role

Essential Job Functions
- Enter and process all expungements received through File and Serve, over the counter, or in the mail.
- Review and scan all paperwork in Odyssey after processing; scan old files pertaining to closed cases.
- Absorb and assist the public, attorneys, police agencies, State's Attorneys, Public Defenders, and court personnel by phone and/or in person via the front counter with questions regarding cases.
- Process criminal/traffic and expungement reports daily.
- Maintain and monitor the expungement queue and different queues within Odyssey.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
- Experience: One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
- Note: A Bachelor’s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
- A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
- A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge
- General office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.
- Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Skill
- Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
- Typing on a personal computer.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Using standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, cash register, scanner, fax machine, etc.
- Using and maintaining numerical filing system to locate files, until all cases are completely scanned.
- Communicating clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing.
- Understanding and abiding by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Exercising tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys.
- Following procedures, verbal and written instructions, and protocols for any given assignment.
- Using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Exercising independent judgment in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and/or regulation to a situation.
Physical Requirements
- Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
