About the Role

Under the direction of the Principal and AFJROTC Director, the Senior AFJROTC Instructor provides learning experiences and educational opportunities for students enrolled in the program. Applicants must have an approved application on file with HQ AFJROTC Instructor Management Division.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (preferred).
  • Retired Air Force Officer with a minimum of 20 years extended active duty, or retired Air Force Guard or Reserve member with a minimum of 3,600 retirement points; must be retired 5 years or less when hired (waivers possible for exceptionally qualified candidates).
  • Must complete the Air Force JROTC Instructor Certification Course (JICC) or Virtual JICC (certification remains valid as determined by Holm Center/JR).
  • Understanding of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth patterns of high school students.
  • Technology skills necessary to deliver instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students enrolled in the program to meet JROTC requirements, including providing written lesson plans aligned with instructional objectives.
  • Implement aerospace science and subject-specific programs to meet U.S. Air Force guidelines.
  • Perform regular teaching tasks in a multi-subject JROTC curriculum, including:
    • Providing instruction.
    • Assessing and encouraging student progress.
    • Managing the learning environment.
  • Instruct students in military drill.
  • Maintain and secure all government-furnished equipment/materials, including cleaning uniforms.
  • Assist with planning and executing extra-curricular activities (e.g., color/honor guard ceremonies, drill/riffle team competitions, field trips, mini boot camps, ship cruises).
  • Prepare monthly, semi-annual, annual, and periodic reports on program administration and logistics.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of the military branch.
  • Assess the JROTC program to ensure objectives are met.
  • Attend military-sponsored seminars to stay current on program requirements.
  • Make annual presentations on the JROTC Program to feeder schools.
  • Take courses to improve teaching abilities.
  • Counsel students in the JROTC Program.
  • Maintain contact with civic groups to promote recognition of the JROTC program.
  • Establish high expectations for student learning and ensure students are aware of them.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Use differentiated instruction aligned with student needs.
  • Comply with all district/school policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Attend training and professional development, implementing learned materials.
  • Use technology to enhance instruction and student achievement.
  • Demonstrate competency in all subject areas taught.
  • Provide evidence of student performance and progress.
  • Maintain a climate of respect and discipline conducive to learning.
  • Adhere to Special Education policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit professionalism, punctuality, and cooperation with students, parents, and staff.
  • Communicate student progress, attendance, and conduct to parents/guardians.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for organizational effectiveness and student safety.

AFJROTC MIP Scale.

Schedule

220-day work year.

Working Conditions

  • Inside/outside office environment.
  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, and lifting (up to 60 lbs occasionally).
  • Climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, overhead reaching, and kneeling required.
  • Constant use of hands for typing, writing, and fine manipulation.
  • Occasional crawling, twisting, balancing, and driving.
