About the role

The Threat Modeling Center (TMC) develops and delivers high-fidelity threat modeling products supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and its Missile Defense System. As a Kinematic Systems Engineer, you will work with a team to generate kinematic output data of simulated missile trajectories for Integrated Threat Products (ITPs) delivered to Department of Defense customers, primarily within MDA. These products are produced on timelines ranging from one day to six months, requiring flexibility, strong requirements identification, and time management.

You will apply knowledge of threat countries' capabilities, Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs), and strategic objectives to simulate missile trajectories from an adversary's perspective. This includes assigning missiles and warheads to achieve specific training or engineering objectives, producing end-to-end threat attack laydown files for modeling. The data supports U.S. missile defense activities and select foreign countries in analyzing missile defense system performance and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Review customer scenario requests and provide feedback on potential issues before production begins.
• Review final documents and data to ensure customer objectives are met and high-resolution data accurately reflects specifications.
• Generate kinematic trajectories using the TMC's Threat Modeling & Simulation Suite (TMSS).
• Troubleshoot products and data.
• Collaborate with the TMC's System Engineering and Software Development groups, as most tools are developed in-house.
• Function as a threat targeteer and weaponeer, assigning missiles and warheads from an adversary's perspective to achieve scenario objectives.
• Produce end-to-end threat attack laydown files for modeling and simulation.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) preferred.
• For Level 2: 2 years of relevant experience, or 0-2 years with a Master’s degree.
• For Level 3: 5 years of relevant experience, or 3 years with a Master’s degree, or a PhD with 1 year of related experience.
• Active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance (required to start).
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Understanding of Linux and Windows-based platforms and associated software.
• Ability to work independently and in groups; must be a self-starter.
• Excellent time management and schedule estimation skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• For Level 3: Quality control experience with a strong background in test and troubleshooting, ability to lead projects, and delegation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in modeling and simulation.
• Knowledge of missiles and six degrees of freedom (6 DoF) trajectory representation.
• Familiarity with missile defense system components and their interoperability.
• Knowledge of missile targeting, allocation, and "Red Force" laydowns.
• Experience with infrared and radar cross section (RCS) signatures.
• Experience in systems engineering and/or software development and testing, especially with Agile methodology.
• Experience working within the Missile Defense Agency, particularly related to Ground Test exercises/events.
