Jr. Quality Engineer - Materials
About the role
Tarkett is seeking a Jr. Quality Engineer - Materials to join the team in Dalton, GA. This role reports to the Director of Quality and supports the Quality and Operations Teams with testing and analysis of incoming materials, process improvements, and data interpretation. The position collaborates with plants within the North American Soft Surface Division to ensure quality products are delivered safely, on time, and at the lowest cost.
Responsibilities
- Support improvement projects through data collection, time studies, audits, data mining, laboratory testing, and focused data collection activities.
- Design and conduct quality assurance lab tests on incoming materials, intermediate process samples, and finished product.
- Perform VOC analysis on raw materials and interpret data to determine disposition for usage.
- Develop expertise in material conversion processes within manufacturing.
- Establish linkages from raw material and laboratory testing to manufacturing processes and final product to drive improvements.
- Leverage problem-solving tools and methodologies to enhance processes and reduce costs.
- Further develop, improve, and expand existing incoming quality processes.
- Perform supporting activities for quality and engineering, including 5S, Lean manufacturing, material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safety procedures.
- Manage workload collaboratively in a team-oriented environment with a positive attitude.
- Model safe behaviors and comply with safety and environmental policies.
- Support plant initiatives for WCM implementation and expansion.
- Perform additional quality and laboratory functions as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Associate’s degree in a science-based area (e.g., Chemistry) required if no Bachelor’s degree is held.
- Six Sigma experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with GC/Mass Spectrometry required.
- Able to read, write, interpret, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ability to multitask in both laboratory and production environments.
- Flexibility for 2nd shift hours and potential weekend coverage.
- Hands-on approach to laboratory, process, and shop floor activities, with a strong understanding of manufacturing and testing.
- Detail-oriented with accountability for completing assignments accurately and on time.
- Strong skills in developing and communicating succinct data analysis and project overviews.
- Team-oriented, self-motivated, and innovative.
- Excellent communication skills in a cross-functional environment.
- Willingness to work closely with production operators and engage deeply with processes.
