Jr. Mine Engineer

Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located in central Arizona, offering a blend of mining industry opportunities and the vibrant lifestyle of Phoenix.

Position Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to safety and Capstone’s Values in Action through proactive field engagement and compliance with MSHA regulations.
• Develop and maintain short-, mid-, and long-range mine plans aligned with production targets, geotechnical parameters, and economic goals.
• Collaborate with Geology, Operations, and Drill & Blast teams to enhance pit designs, scheduling, and haulage efficiency.
• Use mine planning tools (Deswik, MinePlan) to generate pit designs, sequences, and schedules across various time horizons.
• Analyze actuals vs. plan to support forecast updates, performance reconciliation, and strategic planning.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with engineering designs.
• Communicate plans and progress clearly with internal teams including Dispatch, Operations, and Maintenance.
• Support budgeting, reporting, and project execution efforts with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
• Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.

Required

• 0 to 5 years of mining experience.
• Mine Engineering or similar degree.
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• Strong project management skills required.
• Proven ability to identify problems and devise solutions.
• Excellent communication, analytical, management, and problem-solving skills are required.
• Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English fluently.

Preferred

• Prior exposure to mine planning software (Vulcan, Terrain, & AcQuire).
• Experience with drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence.
• Knowledge of drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence.
• Experience with SAP or similar purchasing program.
