Position Summary
The Junior Manufacturing Engineer supports the manufacturing team by assisting in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of production processes. This role focuses on optimizing workflows, improving operational efficiency, and supporting the reliability and functionality of manufacturing equipment.

This position provides hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment while building a strong foundation in engineering, best practices, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Aid in evaluating current manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to quality control, efficiency, and safety.
- Support data analysis of production schedules, methods, and data; prepare reports and insights to management to support decision-making.
- Provide compliance support by helping ensure manufacturing processes align with industry standards, internal procedures, and applicable government regulations under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Assist with cost analysis by reviewing production costs, labor utilization, material usage, and future production requirements to support budget optimization.
- Assist with workflow analysis and factory layout planning, including equipment placement and space utilization, to improve operational efficiency.
- Absolutely estimate production times, staffing requirements, and lead times, and accurately enter relevant data into the production management system (E2).
- Assist in coordinating equipment maintenance and repair activities to ensure procedures are followed and production disruptions are minimized.
- Contribute to facility layout reviews and workflow adjustments to enhance safety, productivity, and product quality.
- Aid in the development, review, and continuous improvement of work instructions to ensure production processes are clear, standardized, and efficient.
Required Skills And Abilities
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, MIG/TIG welding, sheet metal fabrication, and cleanroom protocols.
- Proficiency with CAD tools, ERP or production management systems, and data analysis software used in manufacturing environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assist in identifying issues, analyzing root causes, and recommending practical process improvements.
- Basic to intermediate IT skills, including familiarity with production management software and the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and clear communication with management.
- Solid mechanical aptitude with a working understanding of manufacturing equipment, tools, and production processes.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively, learn from senior engineers, and contribute positively toward shared project goals.
- High attention to detail, with the ability to recognize inefficiencies, inconsistencies, or risks and suggest thoughtful improvements.
- Communicate effectively in English to follow safety procedures, work instructions, and collaborate clearly with supervisors and team members.
Education And Experience
- Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field desired.
- Two (2) years of hands-on experience with high-mix, low-volume builds and pilot production required.
Physical Requirements
- Exhibit good interpersonal skills to communicate change, train shop employees and work with management.
- Ability to move around the facility and visit production areas, which may include walking and standing for most of the time.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to occasionally lift 35 pounds.
- Must be able to concentrate and remain focused in an open office environment with potential distractions.
- Occasional travel may be required for training or coordination with other VDL locations.
