Junior High Special Education Teacher (Learning Behavior Specialist 1)

Position Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned to each student's educational needs.
- Prepare engaging daily lesson plans that support student growth and achievement.
- Provide accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities, including specific learning disabilities, communication disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
- Monitor student progress and prepare progress reports for families.
- Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences and maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians.
- Collaborate with administrators, psychologists, social workers, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to support student success.
- Attend multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs.
- Coordinate with general education teachers to support inclusive instructional practices and successful mainstreaming opportunities.
- Modify curriculum and instructional strategies to maximize student learning and independence.
- Supervise and provide direction to paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
- Maintain accurate student records and communicate atypical situations to administration.
- Foster a positive classroom culture through consistent expectations and effective behavior supports.
- Monitor student behavioral patterns and implement appropriate interventions when needed.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and Special Services meetings.
- Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and school property while requesting necessary instructional supplies.
- Adhere to all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, and district procedures.
- Maintain professional standards consistent with the District's teacher evaluation process.
- Participate in school activities and contribute positively to the school community.
Qualifications
- Hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement.
- Demonstrate knowledge of best instructional practices for students with diverse learning needs.
- Possess strong collaboration, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Be committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered learning environment.
