About this position: Jr. Geologist / Jr. Engineer
Location – Folsom, CA / Seattle, WA
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Aid in planning and implementing environmental and engineering field investigations.
- Conduct soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and vapor sampling activities in accordance with approved work plans and standard operating procedures.
- Support drilling operations, monitor well installation, geotechnical investigations, construction observation, soil vapor extraction system operation and maintenance, and remediation system implementation.
- Perform field inspections, site reconnaissance, and construction oversight activities.
- Document field activities through detailed field notes, logs, photographs, and daily reports.
- Cookordination with subcontractors, laboratories, drilling crews, construction contractors, and project team members.
- Aid in compiling, managing, and evaluating field and laboratory data.
- Prepare boring logs, cross-sections, site maps, engineering drawings, figures, and technical tables.
- Support development and refinement of Conceptual Site Models (CSMs).
- Assist in preparing technical reports, work plans, specifications, permit applications, and regulatory submittals.
- Maintain compliance with project-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), federal requirements, and company safety procedures.
- Participate in client meetings, project briefings, and technical discussions, as assigned.
- Travel to project sites and perform field work that may require overnight travel and extended outdoor work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Earth Science, or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: 0–3 years of professional experience supporting environmental, engineering, remediation, construction, or consulting projects.
- Knowledge: Understanding of environmental investigation methods, geological principles, engineering fundamentals, and/or field data collection practices.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, and strong attention to detail.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs and ability to climb stairs or ladders is required.
- Other: Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Preferred Environmental consulting experience
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification and current refresher training.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), USACE, NAVFAC, Air Force, or other federal projects.
- Familiarity with CERCLA, RCRA, NEPA, and state environmental regulatory programs.
- Experience with GIS, CAD, gINT, and/or OpenGround, environmental databases, or data management software.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.
Necessary Physical Requirements
- Maintain a constant state of mental alertness.
- Maintain a physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.
- Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs and ability to climb stairs or ladders is required.
- Work in extreme cold or hot weather conditions.
- Occasional supervision of vendors or subcontractors.
