About the Role
This position reports to management within the estimating department and involves managing an estimate from beginning to end, working closely with employees, clients, specifying engineers, and vendors. You will also oversee an existing estimating assistant employee.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with estimators, business development managers, project managers, construction managers, engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to clarify scope-of-work, changes, RFIs, and cost-estimate adjustments prior to proposal.
- Perform quantity takeoff surveys, attend pre-bid meetings, and provide detailed information to management and peer review teams for finalizing estimates and proposals.
- Analyze requests for proposals, plans, amendments, and other documentation to determine scope, establish costs, preparation time, schedules, materials, design, labor estimates, and review documentation for accuracy and competitive bidding.
- Consult with clients, vendors, and construction team members to discuss estimates and resolve problems.
- Maintain the company directory of manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate with project managers to develop work crews, production rates, and maintain a database of actual direct and indirect costs for comparison (e.g., estimates vs. "as performed" similar work).
- Support and promote best practices for Valcourt’s safety program.
- Coordinate internal and external resources to expedite workflow.
- Manage communication between upper management and employees regarding active estimates and opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Specific experience in waterproofing, masonry, and concrete repair/restoration preferred.
- Familiarity with procurement of construction services, contract award and buy-out, authoring RFIs, AIA industry-standard documents, and development of contract documents.
- Knowledge of accepted industry practices, materials, techniques, and common code requirements.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under time constraints.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and occasionally stressful environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sales, Business, or related field OR
- At least five years of related experience.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to travel.
