Journeyman Welder

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform as a member of a project work team on project article preparations, modifications, assembly, setup, and teardown using fabrication shop machinery, fabrication, and welding operations to meet project requirements according to approved design tolerances.
• Perform modifications to, or construct, unique equipment, systems, and structures.
• Perform inspection and acceptance checks at project milestones and upon completion of project assignments to ensure technical adequacy.
• Fabricate unconventional, one-of-a-kind items, systems, apparatus, and structures in support of experimental project articles.
• Plan and conduct work from blueprints, drawings, plans, and/or technical publications.
• Perform maintenance, repair, and updates on specialized equipment and systems unique to WOLF operations.
• Perform other tasks as required to support customer requirements.

Qualifications

• Active U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance (Must have interim clearance before start date)
• Must possess a valid Maryland Drivers License
• High school education or equivalent
• Formal military or trade school, or equivalent on-the-job training commensurate with duties
• Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in welding and fabrication at the journeyman level
• At least 2 years of total welding experience must be in Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding operations, with those years within the past 4 years
• Expertise with precision hand tools and measuring instruments related to precision welding and fabrication
• Able to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and project requirements
• Able to lead a fabrication team on project efforts to meet cost, schedule, and technical specifications
• Able to develop modifications to satisfy project requirements without jeopardizing safety of operations
• Able to work tactfully with professional engineers, technicians, and management staff on all levels of effort
