Journeyman Technician

FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips, rocket motor throats, and nozzles. Our materials are used in ground-breaking space initiatives like the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.

About the role

FMI is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Journeyman Technician to perform the installation, maintenance, and repairs of a variety of electrical equipment. In this role, you will also perform heavy, physical work and operate a variety of hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment
• Follow electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications
• Use hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment
• Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment
• Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connect cables and wires between machines and equipment
• Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment
• Replace damaged or broken wires and cables
• Test malfunctioning machinery and discuss malfunctions with other maintenance staff
• Assist with plan and layout of wiring with Engineering Department
• Program, calibrate, and configure Digital Temperature Controllers
• Troubleshoot and repair SCR power controllers
• Document daily work accountabilities and parts usage
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment

Requirements

• Associate Degree (AS) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 3-5 years of experience in Manufacturing
• 2+ years demonstrated technical experience
• Journeyman Electrician License
• Ability to troubleshoot faulty electronic components and systems
• Ability to work independently
• Working knowledge of electrical systems and electrical safety
• Available for rotation of call-in coverage schedule
• Industrial electrical/controls/mechanical maintenance experience
• Wiring and troubleshooting experience with control panels, electric motors, electrical ovens, and typical industrial equipment
• Previous manufacturing experience and/or Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement familiarity is preferred

Pay

The anticipated hourly range for this position is $25-$40 dependent on experience.
