Key Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and piping diagrams to determine layout and installation procedures.
- Cut, thread, groove, weld, and braze pipes using hand and power tools.
- Install and connect piping systems to HVAC equipment such as chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and pumps.
- Test piping systems for leaks using pressure gauges and other diagnostic tools.
- Collaborate with other trades (e.g., electricians, sheet metal workers) to ensure coordinated installation.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
- Adhere to safety protocols and OSHA regulations at all times.
- Troubleshoot and repair piping systems as needed.
Qualifications
- Valid Local 533 Journeyman Pipefitter license or certification OSHA 30 Training.
- Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in HVAC piping systems.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Skilled in various piping materials (e.g., copper, steel, PVC) and joining methods.
- Familiarity with HVAC systems including chilled water, condenser water, steam, and hydronic heating.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and perform manual labor.
Required Education/Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years of HVAC level operation, maintenance & repair experience in the HVAC and refrigeration trade.
Competencies
- Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques, electrical circuits and wiring, operating principles of motors, and local electrical codes.
- Communicate effectively with internal team and customers.
- Diagnose and resolve problems, follow written and verbal instructions, read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material, and perform math.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Valid driver's license
Physical Demands
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other HVAC equipment.
- Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials.
- This position requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
- Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work.
Work Environment
- This job operates primarily alone on HVAC and boiler equipment in all environments, which includes extreme cold or heat depending on the time of year.
- Vehicles are used as the base of operations.
