About the role

J&L Electric is hiring a Journeyman Electrician to support a wide range of field electrical work across commercial, industrial, residential, service, and petroleum-related projects. This is a hands-on field role for an electrician who can do more than one type of work.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
  • Complete electrical work across commercial, industrial, residential, service, and petroleum fueling environments.
  • Run conduit, pull wire, install panels, wire equipment, and complete new field installations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues in the field and recommend practical solutions.
  • Support petroleum-related projects such as gas stations, fueling systems, dispensers, and related electrical installations when needed.
  • Assist with fire alarm, low-voltage, EV charger, and specialty electrical projects.
  • Mentor apprentices and help reinforce safe, high-quality workmanship.
  • Follow all company safety standards and jobsite procedures.
  • Report to the Battle Creek shop most days before heading to job locations.
  • Travel regionally on occasion for project work; per diem and lodging are provided when overnight travel is required.

Requirements

  • Active Michigan Journeyman Electrician License and valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on commercial or industrial electrical experience.
  • Experience running conduit, pulling wire, installing panels, and completing field installations.
  • Strong working knowledge of current NEC requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues in real-world field environments.
  • Comfortable working from the Battle Creek shop and traveling regionally when needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely on active jobsites.

Qualifications

  • Active Michigan Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on commercial or industrial electrical experience.
  • Experience running conduit, pulling wire, installing panels, and completing field installations.
  • Strong working knowledge of current NEC requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues in real-world field environments.
  • Comfortable working from the Battle Creek shop and traveling regionally when needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely on active jobsites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Petroleum fueling, gas station, or fuel system electrical experience.
  • Residential electrical service or installation experience.
  • EV charger installation experience.
  • Fire alarm or low-voltage installation experience.
  • Experience mentoring apprentices or junior field team members.
  • Experience using tablets, mobile apps, or digital job documentation tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working across varied jobsite conditions.

What Makes Someone a Strong Fit

A strong candidate has experience in more than one electrical environment and can adapt from job to job. We are especially interested in electricians who have worked in commercial or industrial field installation and can also support service, residential, or petroleum-related work as needed. A candidate may be a strong fit if they have experience with: Commercial electrical installations, Industrial electrical field work, Service calls and troubleshooting, New construction rough-ins, Conduit bending and installation, Wire pulls, Panel and equipment wiring, EV chargers, Fire alarm / low-voltage support, Petroleum or fueling system sites.

Candidates Who May Not Be a Fit

This role is likely not the right fit for someone whose experience is limited to factory maintenance only. We Are Not Looking For Someone Who Has Only Wired or maintained machines inside a plant, Troubled shot production equipment but not completed field installations, Worked in one facility without running conduit, pulling wire, or building new systems, Held a journeyman card but has little hands-on installation experience outside a factory setting.
