About the role
Miller Electrical is looking for a skilled, well-rounded Journeyman Electrician to join our Electrical Service division. This is not a commercial or industrial construction role — it is a service position, and that distinction matters. Our service electricians handle a high volume of diverse residential and light commercial calls every day, working independently to diagnose problems, complete repairs and installs, and deliver an exceptional experience to our customers.
Responsibilities
- Respond to a variety of residential and light commercial service calls, performing same-day diagnosis, repair, and installation work across a diverse customer base.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems quickly and accurately — service work demands sharp diagnostic thinking, not just execution from a set of plans.
- Install, repair, and upgrade panels, circuits, outlets, switches, fixtures, ceiling fans, EV chargers, generators, and other common service items.
- Inspect electrical systems for code compliance (2023 NEC), safety hazards, and deficiencies — and clearly communicate findings and options to the customer.
- Read wiring diagrams, schematics, and as-built drawings to support diagnosis and repair on existing systems.
- Use test equipment including ohmmeters, voltmeters, and circuit tracers to safely identify faults and verify repairs.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components with precision and care for finished-space work.
- Place conduit in walls, ceilings, and concealed areas as needed for new circuits and service upgrades.
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to motors and equipment in light commercial settings.
- Represent Miller professionally in every customer interaction — explain work clearly, answer questions confidently, and leave the job site clean.
- Document work completed, materials used, and time accurately in company systems for every job.
- Maintain your company vehicle, tools, and equipment in clean, safe, and ready condition at all times.
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergency service.
Qualifications
- MN Class A Journeyman Electrical license, or a directly reciprocating state Journeyman's Class A license.
- Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) — required to operate a company vehicle.
- Strong knowledge of 2023 NEC code requirements with the ability to apply them in the field.
- Proven ability to independently diagnose and solve a wide range of electrical problems — service work requires thinking on your feet, not just following a plan.
- Able to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Proficient with hand tools and test equipment including conduit benders, electrical meters, ohmmeters, and voltmeters.
- Strong customer service and communication skills — you will be the face of Miller in every home and business you enter.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage a full day of service calls with minimal supervision.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- $48-52/hour Depending on experience
- Day-one medical coverage with 100% employee premium paid
- Spouse and family medical coverage subsidized at 60%
- Dental, vision, and life insurance
- 401(k) with up to 4.5% company match
- PTO based on tenure, awarded in a lump sum at the beginning of employment.
