Journeyman Electrical - Instrumentation
About the role
The Journeyman Electrician position at International Paper involves assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures. This role also includes planning layout and installation of electrical systems, inspecting systems for safety and compliance, and diagnosing and repairing malfunctions.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of systems.
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED certification.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in Industrial Maintenance.
- Knowledge of electrical schematics, charging systems, stationary and mobile equipment.
- Current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental or state regulations.
Qualifications
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to crouch or bend at the knees occasionally to increase visibility.
- Ability to climb up to 60 vertical steps occasionally.
- Ability to stoop or bend at the waist occasionally to increase visibility.
- Ability to reach at arm’s length frequently or overhead occasionally.
- Ability to twist and turn at the neck and trunk.
- Ability to walk frequently on uneven ground.
- Ability to handle and grasp tools and parts continually.
- Ability to communicate by speech and hearing continually.
- Visual acuity needed for close detail work.
- Mental dexterity needed as Electrician will work independently while demonstrating attention to detail and continuous awareness.
Skills
- Knowledge of electrical schematics, charging systems, stationary and mobile equipment.
