Journeyman Component Rebuild Technician
Essential Functions
Disassembles and assembles major machine components efficiently, correctly and safely with some technical assistance.
Qualifies all parts for reusability with some technical assistance.
Looks up and orders parts utilizing SIS, TMI with little or no assistance.
Uses Cat technical information, including: service manuals, operations manuals, SIS Web, TMI, SIMSI and STW to address technical issues.
Writes detailed and accurate service reports for every component repair.
Performs all required tasks in accordance with printed procedures.
Affords assistance to other technicians as needed.
Handles all customer inquiries in a prompt and professional manner.
Adheres to all customer care standards.
Actively cares and advocates safety at Western States.
Adheres to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Increasing specialization and ability to repair or recondition Caterpillar major components.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office recommended.
- Ability to learn and use computer systems (ET, STW, Parts Integration, SIS Web).
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Consistent attendance and timeliness.
- Ability to work overtime with little or no notice.
Education And Experience
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Associate Degree from an accredited vocational school preferred or comparable work experience required.
- Two or three year’s minimum experience working on heavy equipment in a Caterpillar or similar environment with component rebuild experience preferred.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
Physical Characteristics
- Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitively climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
- Ability to generate 97 ft./lbs. of force, by pushing and pulling.
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60lbs from the ground and place on a shelf/platform set up to 65 inches off the ground.
- Ability to carry up to 20 lbs. while repeatedly ascending/descending a minimum of ten, 8” stair steps.
- Ability to repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of 10 rungs on various ladders.
- Ability to assemble/disassemble various sizes of nuts and bolts, while repeatedly bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
