About the role

Performs installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, modification, and operational checks and testing of electrical equipment and control systems at VMC and associated clinics.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (40 hours per week, full-time).

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Washington State driver’s license
  • Washington State Journey Level Electrician Card
  • Five years experience in a healthcare setting
  • Ten years experience in the electrical field

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a journey level electrician
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electric wiring systems, switches, distribution panels, motor control centers, and outlet boxes
  • Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts a wide variety of electrical controls
  • Performs maintenance services, diagnoses malfunctions, and repairs systems or equipment following schedules, inspections, or work orders
  • Provides support to systems with electrical interfaces and coordinates multi-discipline repairs with other trade personnel
  • Offers technical advice on system and equipment capabilities and limitations
  • Repairs, overhauls, maintains, services, and installs 120/208 volt and 480/277 volt three-phase systems, including:
    • Emergency power systems and automatic transfer/bypass/isolation switches
    • Switchboards, feeder panels, and lighting/appliance branch circuit boards
    • Indoor dry-type transformers and motor control centers
    • Feeder bus duct and patient wall units
    • Low-voltage lighting controls and medical/surgical lighting
    • Automatic doors, fire alarm systems, nurse-call systems, and variable frequency drives
  • Plans and lays out work using sketches and specifications
  • Determines tools and estimates materials or parts needed (e.g., wiring, fittings, contacts, breakers)
  • Diagnoses and locates malfunctions, then disassembles, repairs, replaces, services, and adjusts as required

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience with electrical control systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with emergency power generators and control systems
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code and Life Safety Code
  • Able to work effectively in a team setting with other shop personnel

Working Conditions

  • Regular and punctual attendance required
  • Extensive bending, lifting, and walking; handling hazardous substances
  • Physical requirements:
    • Adequate vision and hearing for daily responsibilities
    • Ability to lift 75 pounds waist-high regularly and heavier items occasionally
    • Considerable standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending
    • Ability to work in overhead, stretched, cramped, and awkward positions
    • Ability to work on ladders and scaffolds
    • Ability to wear a properly fitted respirator
    • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Professional manner required when dealing with employees and the public
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Frequent exposure to:
    • Sudden temperature changes, dampness, water, mud, and fumes
    • Electrical burns, infections, chemicals, gases, bruises, cuts, electric shocks, dust, dirt, skin and lung irritation
    • Potential for serious injuries from falls or power tool use
  • Proper safety clothing, gear, and equipment required for hazardous locations

Pay

Salary range: $50.24 - $55.51 per hour, dependent on experience.
