About the role
Under the general supervision of the Career Vocational Specialist (Workability I/TPP Coordinator), this position provides job coaching to students in the Special Education Program. You will assist clients/students with exceptional needs in transitioning from school to the work environment, offering support and positive role modeling at their work sites.
Responsibilities
- Assist students at job training sites by providing guidance through verbal instructions, demonstrations, and actual job performance.
- Use fading techniques to gradually withdraw support as students achieve quality and quantity standards.
- Implement effective strategies, including learning styles, prompt cues, self-management, social adjustment, troubleshooting, and reinforcement.
- Train students to use public transportation to various community school and work sites.
- Provide mobility evaluation and training.
- Visit job sites and consult with students and employers to assist with job performance improvement plans and follow-along strategies.
- Contact employers, agencies, and businesses to promote work experience education programs.
- Participate in individualized training plan meetings as a team member.
- Identify work sites for potential training or employment options.
- Review and evaluate job performance, problem-solve, and advocate for students regarding job adjustments or retentions.
- Report on student progress and maintain complete, accurate files and daily logs.
- Maintain Scantron information for school-to-career activities in a database.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of general practices, procedures, and operations of work experience transition programs.
- Familiarity with job coaching methods, techniques, and strategies.
- Understanding of effective record-keeping methods and reporting procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable job placement requirements, labor laws, codes, regulations, rules, and statutes.
- Awareness of the problems and concerns faced by students with exceptional needs.
- Proficiency in operating computers and standard office equipment, as well as required software.
- Ability to encourage appropriate communication between employers and workers.
- Ability to prepare routine reports and maintain related records.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and take initiative.
- Strong public relations skills.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, laws, codes, and statutes related to work experience programs and job placement.
- Ability to provide job coaching, support, and positive role modeling for students with exceptional needs.
- Ability to interact with students individually and in groups.
- Successful candidates must pass fingerprint clearance.
