About the role
Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician to join their team. This position will primarily focus on the Purdue Northwest Impact Lab in downtown Hammond, with some responsibilities at the Hammond campus.
Responsibilities
- Check exterior for garbage and debris and clean up as needed.
- Report larger Grounds issues to the Hammond Grounds Manager.
- Monitor HVAC equipment for proper operation and perform preventative maintenance.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain lighting systems and electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including toilets, faucets, fixtures, pumps, and plumbing piping.
- Maintain HVAC equipment and report larger issues to the Maintenance Manager or contact vendors for repair.
- Perform daily trash pickup on the exterior to maintain a clean appearance.
- Occasionally assist with seasonal Grounds maintenance based on business needs.
- Assist with occasional cleanups within the Impact Lab.
- Affordably assist other maintenance or HVAC staff in various repair and maintenance activities.
- Assist in the Grounds Department, Shipping and Receiving, or other areas as needed.
- Assist with snow removal on the Hammond Campus.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Two years of experience in basic building repairs and preventative maintenance in an instructional or commercial setting.
- Experience working independently with minimal supervision.

- Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize tasks under functional supervision and maintain high levels of productivity.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving orientation; seeks to solve problems with a sense of urgency.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments.
- Knowledge of standard practices and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100+ lbs.
- Ability to work between campuses if needed.
- Physical activity could require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.

Pay
$26.00/hour
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with occasional overtime.
