Job Title: Assistant Director Residential Life

About the role

The Assistant Director (AD) of Residential Life will provide leadership to an assigned Residential Life Neighborhood consisting of three to five residences and additional master leased properties housing approximately 3,000 students (of the 14,000–17,000 student residential system). This position supports the strategic vision of Purdue University Residences by fostering a residential campus environment that offers students opportunities for personal growth through relationship building. The AD will maintain and enhance the intercultural, educational, and social experiences of residential students while aligning with Purdue's strategic plan.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and expertise to the neighborhood to foster student learning and development.
  • Maintain a commitment to Purdue’s strategic plan and student-centered focus for neighborhood oversight.
  • Support a culture of professionalism in alignment with unit values.
  • Utilize strong critical thinking, analytical, team building, and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrate skills in decision-making, problem-solving, continuous improvement, change management, strategic thinking, and financial management.
  • Supervise staff and promote teamwork in daily work activities.
  • Interpret and apply local, state, and federal regulations, guidelines, codes, and laws related to residential life.
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse viewpoints and backgrounds.
  • Identify problems, analyze information, and implement solutions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in student affairs or related field.
  • 3 years of post-master’s experience in Residential Life, fraternity & sorority life, student activities, group living, or related field.
  • Ability to thrive under limited supervision.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Desire to increase knowledge and skills through ongoing development activities.
