Job: Montague Burton Postdoctoral Fellow in Jewish Studies, University of Leeds

Location: Leeds – Main Campus. Fixed-term from 15 January 2016 to 15 January 2017. Secondment opportunities will be considered.

About the role

Jewish Studies at the University of Leeds has a long tradition, originating from a lectureship established by Montague Burton’s benefaction during WW2. The Montague Burton Fellowship played a key role in founding the Centre for Jewish Studies in the 1990s. Scholars at Leeds explore the changing roles of emancipatory projects and critically-reflexive approaches to historiography, conduct pioneering research on cultural and sexual difference in Jewish culture—particularly visual culture—and examine the presence and difference of Jews, Jewishness, and Judaism in pre-modern and modern cultures.

You will contribute to teaching at undergraduate and MA levels, supervise postgraduate students, pursue an active research project, and engage in the research culture of the School and its associated centres, especially the Centre for Jewish Studies.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including From Trauma to Cultural Memory: The Unfinished Business of the Holocaust.
• Contribute to postgraduate supervisions.
• Develop and pursue an independent research project.
• Participate in the research culture of the School of Fine Art, History of Art & Cultural Studies and the Centre for Jewish Studies.

Requirements

• Hold a PhD in a relevant field.
• Demonstrate a sustained interest in the critical interdisciplinary project of the Centre and School.
• Possess proven skills and experience in both teaching and research.

Pay

£31,342 to £37,394 per annum.
