We are looking for a detail-oriented Tax Accountant to support indirect tax activities for a contract position based in Glen Allen, Virginia. This role is suited for someone who can investigate tax-related issues, manage requests through structured workflows, and work comfortably with financial systems and reporting tools.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on indirect tax matters and translate findings into clear recommendations for accounting and business stakeholders.
- Manage incoming work through a ticketing platform, ensuring requests are prioritized, tracked, and resolved within expected timelines.
- Perform tax accounting activities with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and proper documentation of supporting records.
- Use Oracle and related financial applications to review transactions, validate tax treatment, and maintain reliable accounting data.
- Monitor recurring tax processes and exception reports to identify issues, escalate concerns, and support timely corrections.
- Prepare and analyze data sets using reporting tools, including R Code when needed, to improve visibility into tax trends and operational results.
- Partner with internal teams involved in hiring processes and other business functions to address tax impacts tied to organizational activities.
- Maintain organized records of research, issue resolution, and process updates to support audits and ongoing compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Experience in tax accounting, with exposure to indirect tax processes and compliance activities.
- Strong research skills with the ability to interpret regulations and apply conclusions to business transactions.
- Working knowledge of Oracle or comparable enterprise accounting systems.
- Experience using a ticketing system or case management workflow to handle requests efficiently.
- Ability to work with monitoring tools and reporting outputs to identify discrepancies and support resolution efforts.
- Familiarity with data analysis techniques, including the use of R Code or similar tools, is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a contract role.
