As a Job Experience Training (JET) Coach, you will support students and young adults with disabilities in paid and non-paid vocational placements within community business settings. In this highly hands-on role, you will help students build employable skills, workplace confidence, and greater independence while serving as a key bridge between the school program and community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing individualized on-site and community-based vocational instruction aligned to each student's transition plan, goals, and objectives.
  • Coaching and training students and young adults in appropriate workplace behaviors, task completion, and job-specific skills in both community and job-site settings.
  • Consulting with teachers and the Center Director regarding student progress and supporting the effective implementation of instructional and vocational plans.
  • Modeling professional work maturity skills, including appropriate communication and relationship-building with business partners and community agencies.
  • Supporting instructional staff in reinforcing lesson plans and strengthening students' applied vocational competencies.
  • Providing one-on-one and small group instruction focused on job task mastery and workplace readiness skills.
  • Developing students' interpersonal and self-advocacy skills necessary for successful workplace integration.
  • Assisting in assessing student strengths, growth areas, and support needs related to vocational, social, and independent living skills.
  • Maintaining a safe work and community environment by actively supervising students, remaining alert, anticipating potential risks, and proactively intervening when needed.
  • Coordinating with employers and program partners to ensure alignment with work-based learning objectives and student development goals.
  • Counseling and preparing students in job search strategies, interview techniques, and career exploration to expand employment opportunities.
  • Monitoring and evaluating student performance across various work sites by conducting visits, gathering employer feedback, and identifying opportunities for skill refinement.
  • Supporting and monitoring students in community-based settings to strengthen functional life skills and independence.
  • Collecting and maintaining accurate data and documentation in accordance with student program requirements and organizational standards.
  • Transporting students safely to and from work and community sites using approved program vehicles.
  • Tutoring and reinforcing vocational competencies such as workplace expectations, communication skills, and self-determination strategies.
  • Complying with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while promptly reporting any known or suspected concerns.
  • Participating in required meetings, professional development sessions, and ongoing training initiatives.
  • Promoting a collaborative and respectful work environment by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and constructive communication.
  • Assisting with planning instructional materials, supporting classroom or work-site activities, and fulfilling substitute or program support responsibilities as needed.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to meet evolving student and program needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study preferred.
  • Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a valid FL state driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.
  • Willingness and ability to drive a company van and transport students within the community.
  • Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in providing children with vocational education, job coaching services and/or job experience training.
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional behavioral disorders and/or other related disabilities.
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that move them toward realistic goals.
  • Highly skilled in building relationships with students, parents, teachers and community and/or business partners.
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Well-versed in the use of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.
