Job Coach - Vocational Transition Center

The Vanguard School, founded in 1959 and located on a beautiful 28-acre campus in Malvern, PA, is dedicated to the growth and development of children and young adults with a variety of special needs through a collaborative and holistic approach.

About the role

The Job Coach provides guidance and support for students in educational and workplace environments, helping them become successful employees while building positive relationships with mentors, co-workers, and customers. Job Coaches contribute to IEP development, supervise students in on-campus or community-based settings, and may transport students to work sites. They also assist certified teachers with instructional materials, lesson plans, and student progress documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in career exploration, education, and skill development.
• Implement lesson plans, assessments, and classroom activities while collecting and tracking IEP goal data.
• Facilitate career-related materials, community-based trips, and vocational coaching for individuals or small groups.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise Vanguard’s annual Career Day.
• Supervise students at job sites, ensuring adherence to work responsibilities and guidelines.
• Train students in school-based work assignments (e.g., mail delivery, sorting, newsletters).
• Transport students to off-campus job sites using a school van.
• Tutor individuals or small groups to reinforce instruction under a teacher’s direction.
• Enforce school policies and procedures to maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
• Monitor and redirect student behavior according to school and program procedures, including following behavior plans.
• Support the teacher by organizing, preparing, and distributing assignments and materials.
• Mentor new staff and assist substitute teachers.
• Demonstrate competency in VSS core values: Communication and Listening, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Ethics, Professionalism, and Teamwork.
• Comply with organizational policies and maintain professional, confidential, and ethical relationships.
• Attend staff meetings, in-service activities, and required professional development.
• Complete a VFES Job Coach Certification program and maintain certification while employed.
• Perform related duties, special assignments, and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Two years of college or a high school diploma with two years of experience working with young adults with special needs in an organized setting.
• Job Coach certification preferred.
• Experience supporting students with special needs in the workplace and using specially designed instruction.
• Ability to recognize individual student needs and identify workplace supports.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iPads, and network databases.
• Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.

Schedule

• 10-month, full-time position.
• Monday to Friday, 7:45 AM to 3:30 PM.
