About the role

The Job Captain will produce high-quality construction drawings and details for a wide variety of building types, with a strong focus on multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial projects. This role actively participates in all phases of architecture, from initial concept through construction completion, using Revit and AutoCAD to develop construction documents and coordinate with consultants. The position offers broad project exposure, close collaboration with the principal architect, and a clear path to rapid career growth and eventual project management responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed construction drawings and documentation for multi-family and mixed-use buildings, as well as commercial projects including warehouses, industrial facilities, groceries and supermarkets, retail spaces, and fast-food restaurants.
  • Use Revit and AutoCAD to create accurate and efficient construction documents in accordance with project requirements and applicable codes.

  • Support design development by refining plans, elevations, sections, and details, and integrating structural, mechanical, electrical, and other consultant information into the architectural documents.
  • Conduct and assist with site surveys and occasional site visits to verify existing conditions, document field information, and support construction administration tasks.
  • Research and interpret building codes, zoning regulations, and other applicable standards as needed to ensure compliance throughout the design and documentation process.
  • Coordinate with consultants, including structural, MEP, and other disciplines, to integrate their work into cohesive and constructible architectural drawings.
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members and external parties, including clients and consultants, to clarify design intent, resolve issues, and maintain project momentum.
  • Manage smaller to mid-sized projects, including organizing project tasks, tracking progress, and supporting timely completion of project deliverables.
  • Interact directly with clients on assigned projects to understand project requirements, present design solutions, and respond to feedback.
  • Support the principal architect with project coordination, client communication, and overall project execution as needed.
  • Mentor and support junior staff by reviewing their work, providing guidance on drafting standards and design approaches, and helping them develop their technical and professional skills.
  • Produce construction drawings quickly and accurately, maintaining a high standard of quality while meeting project schedules, typically within 3–4 week cycles for smaller projects.
  • Assist with construction administration tasks as needed, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and updating drawings to reflect field conditions.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience working for an architecture firm with hands-on responsibility for construction drawings and project documentation.
  • 3–8 years of overall architectural experience with broad project exposure.
  • Strong ability to efficiently produce complete, accurate construction drawings and details.
  • Proficiency in Revit for architectural drafting, modeling, and construction document production.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and document coordination.
  • Experience producing construction documents for multi-family residential, mixed-use, and commercial projects.
  • Experience with project types such as multi-family residential, commercial buildings, office interiors and fit-outs, restaurants, warehouses, and similar facilities.
  • Solid architectural drafting skills with attention to accuracy, clarity, and constructability.
  • Ability to work across all phases of design, including schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with internal team members and coordinating with external consultants and clients.
  • Ability to manage smaller projects and handle multiple tasks within tight project timelines.
