About the role

Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Applies current nursing theory, principles of care, and nursing policies and procedures to perform functions appropriate to the age of the patient, including maintaining a safe and clean care environment, engaging in quality improvement, supervising nursing assistants, contributing to department operations and communications, and aligning with the mission, vision, and objectives of Jackson General Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
• Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other to address all identified needs.
• Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement the medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
• Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient’s responses to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
• Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
• Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure.
• Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
• Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service to ensure the unique nature of the client is addressed.

Requirements

• Graduate of a school of nursing.
• Current WV nursing license.
• BLS certification within 30 days from hire date.
• ACLS required 30 days from hire date for Med/Surg, OR, and ED.
• PALS required 30 days from hire date for OR and ED.

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS and PALS certifications.
• One (1) year of direct patient care experience as an RN.

Physical Requirements

• Motor coordination and manual dexterity.
• Heavy/hard work: requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.

• Protracted or irregular hours.
• Working around biohazards and infectious diseases.
• Working with or near the deceased.
• Working with hands in water.
• Exposure to electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.

• Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
• Ability to care for multiple patients.
• Strong clinical assessment skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
