Registered Nurse Emergency Department

Professional caregiver responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Utilizes the nursing process through technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination with health team members.

Position Details

Full time, 36 hours per week, variable shift in the Emergency Department at Intermountain Medical Center. Licensed RN experience in an Emergency Department and/or high acuity setting preferred. One year of licensed RN experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assess: Perform appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills. Evaluate information from interdisciplinary team members, patients, families, physicians, and support staff.
• Plan: Use assessment information and critical thinking to develop individualized care plans collaboratively. Involve patients, families, teams, and physicians in planning, including education, referrals, and follow-up for ongoing support needs.
• Implement: Direct the interdisciplinary care team through delegation, coordination, and collaboration. Provide or delegate care consistent with the plan, guidelines, and professional licensure. Manage priorities, time, supplies, and resources effectively.
• Evaluate: Assess patient response to interventions by reviewing goal achievement, clinical outcomes, and satisfaction. Revise the plan of care as needed and reassess changes.
• Professionalism: Promote the nursing profession and participate in the development of others. Integrate legal and ethical standards into practice, comply with regulatory requirements, and ensure accurate, timely documentation.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred within 60 days of employment start.
• RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four years of hire.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution. Verification of degree required.
• As of 4/27/2025, a BSN is required for new hires or promotions. Employees hired or promoted prior to this date are held to the minimum requirements in place at the time of their hire or promotion.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see, read, and assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment.
• Frequent verbal communication with care providers, patients, and visitors, including hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, and needs, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity for operating complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation.
• Ability to lift and move patients, including bending, retrieving, lifting, and carrying supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to heavy items.
• Walking and assisting with patient transport, pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, often in crowded or busy environments.
• May require standing in a stationary position for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: Ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, seeing, and reading signs and traffic signals.

Pay

$35.22 - $53.29 per hour, dependent upon experience.
