About the Role
Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for a Permanent, Part-Time Jewish Chaplain position within Enhancement Services, under the direct supervision of the Program Assistant, Enhancement Services. This role requires a high degree of professionalism, initiative, and independence in performing tasks, with the ability to communicate courteously and effectively across hospital departments. Candidates must demonstrate tact, good judgment, and maintain confidentiality while working with staff and management. Chaplains work as a team to provide a safe and secure environment and must be patient-oriented, collaborative, safety-conscious, flexible, and detail-oriented.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and conduct Jewish Religious Services, typically held on Sundays, and other rituals of Jewish tradition for patients.
- Provide spiritual counseling to patients in groups and on units.
- Counsel patients and their families on moral and ethical problems.
- Establish rapport with patients, analyze situations accurately, and adopt effective courses of action.
- Use spiritual assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in clinical settings.
- Help others discover meaning in experiences of suffering, grief, and loss.
- Understand how psychosocial dynamics and cultural/ethical differences affect pastoral care practices.
Requirements
To gain list eligibility and appointment to the Jewish Chaplain classification, candidates must follow the exam bulletin and complete the required examination process. Failure to take the exam will disqualify the application from moving forward.
Pay
$5,743.00 - $7,541.00 per month.
Schedule
Permanent, Part-Time – ½ Time (approximately 20 hours per week).
Work Location
San Bernardino County, California – Department of State Hospitals - Patton (3102 E. Highland Avenue, Patton, CA 92369). In-office work is required; telework is not available for this position.
