Java Developer - Senior

About the role

Our client is seeking a Java Developer - Senior to join the thinkorswim® Performance Engineering team. In this role you will independently plan and deliver performance and resiliency initiatives for a Java-based trading platform, focusing on latency, scalability, reliability, and resiliency. You will build workloads and tools, identify code and system bottlenecks, and recommend improvements across client, server, gateway, infrastructure, and cloud environments. The position is based in Southlake, TX with Ann Arbor, MI as a backup location.

Responsibilities

• Code performance test scripts in Core Java to support performance and resiliency initiatives.
• Develop and maintain Unix shell and Python-based framework components used for performance testing.
• Create custom tooling, including mock services, and maintain a tool repository to support repeatable test execution.
• Gather and analyze performance requirements with project owners and stakeholders, then translate findings into actionable code, configuration, capacity, and design recommendations.
• Monitor application behavior during test runs and production support activities, analyze results, and identify code-level performance bottlenecks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering.
• 5+ years of Java and J2EE (client and server side) development experience, including Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud.
• 5+ years of experience with distributed systems/software, real-time processing, relational database systems, and messaging systems.
• Linux background with experience in shell scripting.

Skills

• Strong diagnostic skills, including troubleshooting JVM issues (thread dumps, garbage collection, memory management).
• Deep understanding of concurrency and multi‑threading.

Pay

$65‑$68 per hour

Schedule

Contract‑to‑hire role with onsite expectation of 4 days per week.
