Position Summary
We are seeking a Java Developer to support the sustainment, enhancement, and modernization of mission-critical applications supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications
- Analyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues
- Support enhancements and sustainment activities for applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies
- Design and implement REST and SOAP-based services and integrations
- Develop and maintain modern backend services utilizing Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs
- Collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives
- Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations
- Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
- Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and application deployments
- Contribute to Agile/Scrum teams to deliver high-quality software solutions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–7 years of software development experience
- Strong experience with Java development
- Experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot
- Experience developing REST APIs and web services
- Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases
- Experience using Git-based source control
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with WebLogic application server administration or deployment
- Experience with Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, or other enterprise Java technologies
- Experience with microservices architectures
- Experience with Docker and containerized applications
- Experience with React, JavaScript, or TypeScript
- Experience supporting federal government or VA programs
- Experience with Jira and Confluence
