About the Role
UST is looking for a strong Java Backend Engineer to work on a multi-vendor, multi-geo team to help build a next-generation, high-scale enterprise platform.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement high-performance Java-based applications.
- Analyze business and user requirements to define application architecture and technical solutions.
- Define application objectives, features, and functionality aligned with business goals.
- Design and develop scalable, secure, and distributed microservices-based applications.
- Build RESTful APIs and backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop and maintain event-driven applications using Apache Kafka.
- Participate in architecture discussions and recommend improvements to existing systems and Java infrastructure.
- Develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-quality software solutions.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application and production issues.
- Produce detailed technical design documents and development specifications.
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, best practices, and software engineering principles.
- Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, QA Engineers, and DevOps teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Develop user and technical documentation where required.
- Support CI/CD implementation and deployment automation.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and continuously enhance technical expertise.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of experience in software engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
- 5–6 years of hands-on experience in Java development at the enterprise level (recent).
- Experience working with Java Version 18 or above is mandatory.
- 3–4 years of hands-on experience with Kafka.
- 2–3 years of solid experience in Kubernetes.
- Strong programming skills in Java, including object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, and familiarity with Java frameworks.
- Understanding of microservices architecture and experience in building and deploying microservices-based applications.
- Hands-on experience in developing Spring Boot applications, including dependency injection, ORM (Object-Relational Mapping), and REST API development.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud platform, including Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, or COSMOS DB.
- Familiarity with Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) practices, including automated testing, build pipelines, and deployment strategies.
- Proficiency in writing SQL queries as per industrial standards, fine-tuned for optimization.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, good communication (written & verbal) skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Evaluation includes a hands-on coding/troubleshooting exercise; candidates should be able to articulate past projects and perform on-the-fly troubleshooting or logic writing.

Pay
Compensation range for this role in Bentonville, Arkansas: $75,000–$113,000.

- Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty.
