Java/AI Developer

About the role

The Java/AI Developer will be responsible for designing and maintaining optimal programming and environment solutions, developing production and test environments, and supporting tools and processes to gather detailed user requirements. They will also participate in strategic planning discussions with technical, business, and client stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Research and development of functional and technical specifications documents for production and test environments, architecture/design/develop solutions.
• Develop plans for proof of concept and validation of technology/solutions.
• Develop and support the tools and processes to gather detailed user requirements.
• Participate in strategic planning discussions with technical, business, and client stakeholders.
• Identify gaps in processes and services across environments.
• Review programming and environment changes and raise awareness for potential impacts.
• Effectively and efficiently utilize programming tools.
• Architect and develop effective solutions that align with the organization's vision.
• Actively participate in product design and development sessions.
• Provide direction to less experienced Programmer/Analysts.
• Engage with both onshore and offshore teams to refine development practices.
• Write efficient, easy to follow technical documentation.
• Act as liaison between technical and non-technical counterparts.
• Help improve release process improvements, assisting the Scrum Master with team needs, and synchronizing team efforts for seamless product releases.

Requirements

• Demonstrated exposure to, or hands-on experience with, GenAI coding assistants used across day-to-day engineering workflows in the SDLC—implementation, refactoring, unit testing, regression support, code reviews, scripting/automation, troubleshooting, and documentation—while applying engineering judgment and validation.
• Uses AI assistance for common dev tasks (code suggestions, test generation, review support, automation scripts, troubleshooting) with clear ownership for correctness and quality.
• Applies GenAI in ways that reduce context switching and accelerate delivery across typical workflows (not limited to writing new code).
• Practical familiarity with tools such as GitHub Copilot and/or Claude within IDE/CLI-style workflows.
• Working knowledge of agentic workflows, spec-driven development (translating low-level design artifacts such as class structures, API contracts, and data models into structured specs that guide AI-assisted implementation), and custom instructions and prompt engineering, with the ability to establish team-level practices for effective AI-assisted development.
• Experience with SQL structured programming, troubleshooting, and performance tuning relational databases on PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and/or MSSQL for high-volume, transactional applications.
• Experience developing relational and non-relational data models using enterprise modeling tools such as Erwin or ER/Studio.
• Experience with Java, Spring framework, Spring boot.
• Experience with cloud framework: Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
• Experience with build tools: Gradle/maven.
• Experience with Cucumber framework – BDD testing.
• Experience with YugabyteDB and PostgresSQL databases.
• Experience with modern messaging systems – Kafka.
• Prior experience in system modernization initiatives from legacy to distributed platforms (e.g., migration of events from legacy messaging platform IBM MQ/Rabbit to Kafka).
• Experience with continuous build process using Bamboo, Bitbucket/Git, or similar.
• Experience with the Atlassian tool stack (JIRA).

Qualifications

• 1+ years with SQL structured programming, troubleshooting, and performance tuning relational databases on PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and/or MSSQL for high-volume, transactional applications.
