About the role
Janitors at Merchants Building Maintenance are responsible for performing all-purpose cleaning and preservation of assigned areas. Tasks can vary but must be adaptable to the needs of supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Perform all-purpose cleaning and preservation of assigned areas
- Flexibility in performing assigned duties as directed by supervisors
- Lift and move up to 50 lbs. of office and facilities equipment and trash
- Physical demands include stooping, standing, climbing, and lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally and up to 10 to 20 lbs. frequently
- Repetitive movements: sitting, walking, standing, bending (neck), bending waist, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, twisting (neck), twisting (waist)
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to lift and stack objects up to 25 pounds occasionally and frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects
- Indoor/outdoor work environment with exposure to weather extremes
- Exposure to noise, dust, gas, cleaning products, and noise
- Must be able to work at heights and with biohazards such as bloodborne pathogens, sewage, and hospital waste
Requirements
The janitorial position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Skills
Strong attention to detail, ability to follow directions, and willingness to learn new cleaning techniques are essential.
