Jailer

Chippewa County is seeking candidates for Jailer positions within the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department.

About the role

This position is responsible for supervising inmates of the Chippewa County Jail while assuring a safe, secure, and sanitary environment in accordance with established procedure and guidelines under the general direction of the Jail Sergeants and Jail Lieutenant.

Qualified candidates will have the ability to manage, direct, and command people in a respectful and effective manner as well as a demonstrated history of being able to think and act quickly, accurately, and calmly under time constraints and in difficult or emergency situations.

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts (6 AM–6 PM or 6 PM–6 AM), including weekends and holidays
• Current shift openings: Nights (6 PM–6 AM), includes shift differential of $1.00 per hour

Requirements

• Two (2) years of previous full-time work experience required
• Two (2) years of previous corrections/jail experience preferred

Qualifications

If the applicant is Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) Certified or possesses an equivalent out-of-state certification at the time of hire and has 30 college credits from an accredited college (as defined by the U.S. Department of Education) upon hire—unless employed in law enforcement prior to 1993—they may be considered as a Jailer II candidate. Jailer II must be LESB Certified and meet the college credit requirements listed above at the time of hire. Additionally, Jailer II candidates must possess 60 college credits within 5 years of hire from an accredited college, unless employed in law enforcement prior to 1993.
