About the role

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Jailer to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor inmates in a secure detention facility
• Maintain order, safety, and security within the jail
• Conduct inmate searches, cell inspections, and contraband control
• Process incoming and outgoing inmates, including fingerprinting and photographing
• Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports
• Respond to inmate requests and emergencies
• Ensure compliance with all jail policies, procedures, and regulations

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Valid driver’s license
• No felony convictions
• Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and physical agility test
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment
• Basic computer skills

Special Requirements

• Completion of a certified jailer training program (may be provided after hire)
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Must be able to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods
