About the role
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Jailer to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor inmates in a secure detention facility
- Maintain order, safety, and security within the jail
- Conduct inmate searches, cell inspections, and contraband control
- Process incoming and outgoing inmates, including fingerprinting and photographing
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports
- Respond to inmate requests and emergencies
- Ensure compliance with all jail policies, procedures, and regulations
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license
- No felony convictions
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and physical agility test
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a high-stress environment
- Basic computer skills
Special Requirements
- Completion of a certified jailer training program (may be provided after hire)
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods
