IT Specialist (CUSTSPT)

About the role

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command.

Responsibilities

• Helps perform information technology (IT) customer support focusing and synchronizing DISA and customer efforts to achieve mission goals and increase operational effectiveness.
• Works with the customer to identify customer requirements based on analysis of business needs and practices.
• Affixes in analyzing functional requirements and utilizes entry level knowledge of operating systems, applications software, and IT policies/procedures to assist in developing viable IT solutions and alternatives.
• Affixes in the review of customer requirement documents and other requests for proposals to specify all technical requirements and concerns are made known to the directorate's engineering staff as appropriate.
• Shadows the project team leader, mentor, and advisor to support team members with project oversight and coordination efforts with other information systems professionals and technical personnel.

Requirements

• Conditions of employment:
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• The national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
• In accordance with the DoD 8140 policy series, the position is subject to completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and completing Residential Qualification requirements overall in 12 months.
• The Full Performance Level (FPL) may be either GG-07, GG-09, GG-11, or GG-12 and is determined based on the position being filled. Management has the discretion to select candidates at grade levels below the FPL and promotions are not guaranteed.
• Individuals tentatively selected for drug testing designated positions at the Defense Information Systems Agency will be required to submit to urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment or placement.
• Employee is subject to recall or call back during off-shift hours, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, if required by upper management.

Qualifications

• GG-05: Experience with basic IT principles, equipment operation, and user support.
• GG-07: Experience assisting with basic IT system administration or support; troubleshooting common desktop, peripheral, or hardware issues; documenting customer support requests; and applying standard diagnostic tools and operating procedures.
• GG-09: Experience resolving moderately complex IT system or network issues; installing, configuring, and testing hardware/software components; participating in system testing or cybersecurity hygiene routines; and drafting technical documentation or user guides.
• GG-11: Experience analyzing, evaluating, and resolving complex IT system, network, or security issues; participating in system lifecycle deployments, upgrades, or migrations; implementing security controls or configuration baselines; and providing technical guidance to tier-1/tier-2 technicians.
• GG-12: Experience includes planning and executing IT infrastructure, security, or modernization projects; performing independent technical evaluations of IT architectures or security postures; formulating recommendations for system performance, optimization, or risk mitigation; and leading the resolution of enterprise-level or critical operational outages.

Education

• GG-05: Substitution of Education for Experience: For your of education that lead to a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) with a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. • GG-09: Substitution of Education for Experience: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education, Master's or equivalent graduate degree, may be substituted to meet the qualifying experience requirement. • GG-11: Substitution of Education for Experience: Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree may be substituted to meet the qualifying experience requirement.
