IT Software Asset Management Analyst - SAM Analyst
About the role
The ITAM Software Analyst (SAM) serves as the administrator for Software Asset and License Management. This role ensures accurate software data by configuring automated discovery tools to populate the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), ensuring software asset lifecycle integrity, maintaining data quality, and supporting ITIL processes.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain ServiceNow SAM Pro system, including normalization, rationalization, entitlements, contracts, software models, and governance of Application Services and Service Offerings.
- Ensure software license compliance by monitoring usage, managing entitlements, and supporting internal and third-party vendor audits.
- Develop and maintain governance policies, data standards, asset owner training materials, and application CI relationship mappings.
- Manage approved software models, administer software license allocations, and provide portfolio and spend impact analysis.
- Support audit readiness and deliver real-time inventory, compliance, and security information for IT and business teams, including requirements tied to government contracts.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship required due to Department of Defense restrictions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent compensation of education and/or experience.
- ITIL v4 Foundations OR CSAM, CITAM certification.
- 3 or more years of experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, IT Operations, Procurement, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience administering Software License/Asset Management platforms (i.e., ServiceNow Discovery/SAM Pro).
- Solid knowledge and understanding of IT Asset lifecycle management governance, tracking, and reporting from procurement through disposal.
- Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical customers/asset owners.
- Strong analytical ability for managing data, forecasting budget impacts and interpreting contract terms of use.
Qualifications
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent compensation of education and/or experience.
- Must have ITIL v4 Foundations OR CSAM, CITAM certification.
- Must have 3 or more years of experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, IT Operations, Procurement, or related field.
- Must have demonstrated experience administering Software License/Asset Management platforms (i.e., ServiceNow Discovery/SAM Pro).
- Must have solid knowledge and understanding of IT Asset lifecycle management governance, tracking, and reporting from procurement through disposal.

- Partners with procurement and stakeholders on vendor management, including contract negotiations, renewals, and maintenance agreements.
- Provides guidance to business units regarding software licensing requirements.
- Participates in implementation and enhancement of ITAM tools and automation initiatives.

Pay
$75,000 ~ $90,000. The base pay offered for this position may vary within the posted range based on your job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may fall outside of this range.
Schedule
Our first consideration will be to have this employee be able to take advantage of Hybrid work and collaboration, living within the state of Wisconsin. Employees within 45 miles of WPS Headquarters (1717 W. Broadway in Madison, WI, 53713) will be expected to be able to work in office 2 days a week on a regular basis. As a secondary consideration, we do offer remote work in the following approved states: Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin.
