Northern Technologies Group is seeking an IT Scrum Master to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. This role operates in an onsite, hybrid environment, facilitating collaboration across geographically dispersed teams in Huntsville and Colorado Springs.

About the role

The IT Scrum Master will partner closely with the Release Train Engineer (RTE) to define, mature, and align the Scrum Master role with program-level SAFe frameworks and Agile release trains. This position focuses on designing and implementing customized Agile processes, fostering a cohesive "one-team" dynamic across locations, and optimizing Agile delivery for IT and infrastructure teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the RTE to design, implement, and train the IT team on customized Agile processes, ensuring a smooth transition to a structured Agile delivery model.
  • Establish a cohesive "one-team" dynamic across geographically split locations (Huntsville and Colorado Springs) using virtual collaboration tools and an inclusive hybrid engagement model.
  • Facilitate an optimized Agile battle rhythm tailored to the operational needs and delivery cycles of IT and infrastructure teams.
  • Guide and coach the team and organization on Agile/Scrum practices to deliver high-quality IT solutions.
  • Assist the Product Owner and Technical Leads with backlog maintenance, prioritizing IT initiatives, and translating technical requirements into actionable user stories.
  • Ensure all planning data is documented in the system of record for accurate reporting and metrics development.
  • Deliver weekly metrics to the RTE.
  • Identify, track, and resolve impediments or blockers that hinder the team’s ability to meet Sprint goals.
  • Manage and track team capacity, sprint velocity, and burn-down charts using Agile lifecycle management tools.
  • Facilitate cross-team coordination and dependency management, especially for complex enterprise system upgrades or break/fix activities.
  • Integrate IT service delivery and cybersecurity compliance tasks into the Agile workflow.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability within the team.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must possess an active Secret security clearance.
  • Must have 4 or more years of general (full-time) work experience (may be reduced with advanced education).
  • Must have 2 or more years of directly related experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or Project Manager.
  • Must hold a current Agile certification (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM I), or SAFe Scrum Master (SSM)).
  • Must have experience using Agile management and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps) for remote and hybrid teams.
  • Must have experience applying Agile methodologies to IT operations.
  • Must be able to obtain an active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Prior experience in Agile/Scrum practices within a technical team, ideally under the guidance of an RTE or Agile Coach.
  • Experience working within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), particularly in a DoD or government contracting environment.
  • Familiarity with software lifecycle and development processes.
  • Technical background or previous experience in System Administration, Network Engineering, or IT Service Management.
  • Experience integrating ITIL methodologies (Change, Incident, Problem management) with Agile processes.
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE).
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity processes, such as RMF, Secure Host Baselines, and DISA STIGs.
  • Advanced Agile certifications (e.g., A-CSM, PSM II, PMI-ACP, or SAFe Release Train Engineer).
