About the role
The HDR IT Project Manager II is responsible for delivering complex, higher risk IT projects independently and providing mentorship to junior project managers. This role focuses on broad scope initiatives with significant business impact for multiple stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead medium to large IT projects with minimal oversight
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocations using project management tools (ServiceNow SPM)
- Manage dependencies, estimates, and replanning activities independently
- Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure financial accountability
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and manage changes to project scope or timelines
- Escalate appropriately based on impact thresholds
- Proactively manage team communication, clarifying dependencies, risks, and changes as they arise
- Tailor ceremonies to improve engagement and delivery effectiveness
- Negotiate resources, timelines, and priorities across teams to meet project goals
- Leverage KPIs to inform trade-offs and actions
- Track outcomes and validate delivered value
- Facilitate executive level status reporting
- Present risks, impacts, and options to leaders with confidence
- Leverage quantitative project data (e.g., schedule performance, cost variance, resource utilization, risk trends, and delivery metrics) to analyze project health, identify risks and opportunities early, and translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations that inform stakeholder decision-making and improve delivery outcomes
- Foster a high performing team environment by leading with emotional intelligence
- Inspire, motivate, and support team members through change and challenges
- Address delivery friction and reinforce accountability without formal authority
- Manage stakeholder expectations, explain impacts, and adapt communication to audience needs
- Incorporate change impacts and communications into project plans
- Ensure adherence to and drive continuous improvement of established PMO processes
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of IT project management experience in a complex enterprise environment
- Proven success managing complex, cross-functional projects on time and within budget
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira, ServiceNow)
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP, PMI-ACP, or SAFe certification
- Experience managing vendor contracts and external partners
